Epic-ish Singletrack

Headin out with 2 pairs of skis and a bike

This past weekend I headed over to Winter Park for one of the Epic Singletrack races they put on. Lining up it was looking to be a stout field as I stood next to Cameron Chambers among a number of Colorado Springs folks that made the trip. From the gun we headed straight up a fire road for 15 min or so. This blew up the field pretty good and I entered the singletrack somewhere around 15th I would guess. After traversing/descending for a little while, we started the fire road climbs that lasted nearly forever. I sat in a paceline with 2 Mafia Racing guys with it red-lined for quite a while trying to chase down the next group of racers. By the time we hit the next singletrack we had lost one of the Mafia guys but successfully run down the 3 ahead of us. This led to some more climbing only this climbing is the type I tend to do better with...steep. Managed to get away from most of the guys in the group on the fire roads and pulled in a few more guys that had fallen off pace earlier in the race. On the last descent I think I got caught by one rider which landed me 11th out of 35 or so. Great day despite the course re-routes onto the road due to snow pack.

Sat night we headed to Keystone to camp, only to wake up the next morning for a little skiing...yep. A-Basin was on it's next to last weekend so we figured, why not? Problem was, when we got to the lift line, for whatever reason Steph's season pass wouldn't work...long story short...They were idiots and "couldn't" help us so we started hiking. After about an hour we had wandered into "closed terrain" which ski patrol kindly reminded us of...grr...so from there we headed over to mid-station lift where they don't scan passes and proceeded to ski all day! Pretty slushy but really not terrible for 70 degrees and nearly July.

Hiking up A-basin, sticking it to the man
