Durango- Iron Horse Bicycle Classic

This past weekend Steph and I headed down to Durango for the Iron horse bicycle classic MTB race among other things. Rolled into town Sat to pre-ride with Ashley who came up from Phoenix. The course was on the college loop and had a solid 1000' of climbing per lap along with a lot of loose gravel to make things interesting. Sun ended up being pretty hot but we were given one huge surprise when I found out the Pros got to ride through the front window of Steamworks Brewery, through the inside, and out off the back porch. At the same time, each lap we rode over a wooden "overpass" where the crit races were going on underneath of us. Lets just say each lap through Steamworks was deafening with the few hundred people packed in there and the rest of the route had enough spectators making noise to keep it interesting.
Anyway, I got off to a pretty mediocre start in the race and entered the single track a ways back getting bunched up on the first climb which turned into a hike a bike. After we got rolling I was able to start reeling a few guys in and had worked into about 17th when I managed to burp my front tire pretty good when I tried to catch a little air coming onto the road. Got that all sorted out with my CO2 and worked the rest of the race to catch back on, ending up with 24th or so. Ended up doin a little camping that evening and a little more riding on the Durango trails Mon.

Tues, Steph and I took the moto out and headed for Telluride to chill out a little and mostly to just enjoy the ride.

All in all a great weekend. Probably stick around here this weekend and just get in some solid training miles. Not sure which race will be next but it's looking like Crested Butte MSC race may be the one here in a few weeks.
