So I was getting a little frustrated with training tires on the new rig lately. I hate putting all of the miles on my carbon rims with lighter race tires so I set up another wheelset a few weeks ago. Granted, I started with some super thin non-ust tires and managed to knock a hole in them 45 min after mounting them up while decending down Williams Canyon (a tad rocky/technical). Got a little frustrated with babying my bike down the descents so I ordered up a UST Ardent and Advantage from Maxxis. My how tires can change the ride. These things have completely transformed my bike and while definitely adding a little weight for the climbs, with that much tread on the ground you can absolutely shred the downhill while sticking through the loose/gravely corners we have here. They're also pretty thick which moves taking out a sidewall to the back of the mind.
Only a few more days and it'll be back to the race rims for the 2 day "Kansas Fat Tire Fest."
