MSC #1-Cheyenne Mountain Explosion

Welp, race season has begun in the rockies. Went out for the first of the Mountain States Cup yesterday here on the home turf. Ended up 10th for the day which was a good starting point for the season. The race was basically a climb/descend course with a smooth climb, technical top section, and fast decent. Started out around 14th place off the line and pretty much stayed anywhere from 8-12th throughout the race. Considering it was the first race, I really felt pretty good, feeling like I could actually race the whole time as it never turned into survival mode. Maybe I should have ridden faster? Anyway, I definitely have some things to work on now but at least the season is rolling.

I can also say that I couldn't be happier with my Top Fuel and Maxxis tire combo. I was running a Crossmark on the rear and Ikon on the front with about 18lbs of pressure in it. Never lost contact on the loose stuff and never pinched on the rocks. The full suspension ended up getting pulled out for 3 reasons...it's lighter than my 29er, there was a pretty good decent each lap, and full suspension is just more fun.

  2. It does suck when you have to purposely ride the descents slower due to not having enough tire. I prefer a full UST tire just for it's durability. You kill yourself to stay in contact on the climb then watch guys coast away from you. Stick with heavy rubber and you'll be happier overall.
